A septic system is made of six major parts:

  • Distribution Piping
  • Leaching System, Which Is Made Of Beds, Trenches, Leaching Field Or Leaching Pit
  • Liquid Distribution Box
  • Recently Installed Tanks Have Outlet Baffle Filters

Your septic tank should be cleaned and checked on a regular basis. Depending on the size of your family, it should be cleaned every two or three years. When waste sits in the tank, it forms sludge, which must be removed. If not, the sludge will build up and clog the pipes within the system. There are several common causes that can lead to a failure of the septic system:
